Russia will host its first FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15, 2018. The matches will be held in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Yekaterinburg and Sochi. The opening match between the national teams of Russia and Saudi Arabia will take place on June 14 at Luzhniki stadium in Moscow.

The US will host the 2026 football World Cup, with Canada and Mexico, and the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. As World Rugby looks to repeat the success of Japan 2019, a tournament held in a tier-two rugby nation, many observers see the US as a possible host for 2031.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said the Kremlin has no information on what could have caused the apparent attack and noted that Moscow was ready to cooperate with the UK investigation.
