Denver had control — the Nuggets were up 97-90 with 8:29 left in the game — but with everything on the line the Clippers cranked up their defense, Kawhi Leonard was blocking shots, Paul George was getting buckets, and Los Angeles went on a 14-4 run that extended to a 23-10 finish to the game.
While that block alone didn’t win the game, it was a series of plays like that over a few minutes — mostly from Leonard and George, who scored 32 points on the night — that got the Clippers a 113-107 win that has them up 2-1 in the series. Game 4 is Wednesday night.
Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard on the Lakers’ shadow: “In the last few years, from the basketball standpoint, the Clippers have been better. … If we go to the championship and win and we don’t get no coverage, that’s fine with me.”
He finished with 32 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists for Denver and kept the Nuggets in the game (although his seven turnovers hurt). Nikola Jokic dropped 3-point rainbows (26 points), elbows (18 rebounds) and cross-court, Drew Lock dimes (four assists). The underdogs got a little bit of everything — 13 points from Harris and Paul Millsap, 11 […]
The Milwaukee Bucks avoided a shock series sweep against the Miami Heat in their Eastern Conference semi-final, but they will need another win on Tuesday to stay alive in a series Miami lead 3-1. The Bucks could be without star Giannis Antetokounmpo (ankle).
The Clippers had been in control for a while by then, using a team-record, 45-point second quarter to build a big lead. And when Dallas cut it to eight midway through the fourth quarter, Leonard responded with a 3-pointer and left-handed dunk on consecutive Clippers possessions to restore a comfortable lead.
LeBron and Davis star as Lakers level series, Bucks stay alive in NBA playoffs
Nuggets coach Michael Malone plays up the “Us vs. The World” motivation card. He felt his team was written off against Utah after falling behind 3-1 in the series. He thought many believed the Nuggets would get swept after losing Game 1 in lopsided fashion before rebounding to take Game 2.
