Sarah-Jane Marsh, the hospital boss who is NHS test and trace’s director of testing, offered a “heartfelt” apology for people being sent long distances away from home. “It’s our laboratory processing that is the critical pinch point. We are doing all we can to expand quickly,” she said.
“But, in a care home setting, where there are some people who have symptoms of coronavirus and others who do not, testing everyone, including those who do not, does have a purpose – we will be doing this to help manage outbreaks.”
‘Lessons to learn’Ms Freeman said “at the time we took all the steps we could reasonably have been expected to take”, but added that “as always with these matters as knowledge about the virus and the practicalities of dealing with it develops, then we will take different judgements and different views”.
