Emerald Heights said in an emailed statement Friday the employee had worked there for 27 years before she died Monday. It declined to release further information about her identity or her job, citing privacy concerns, except to say she worked in a non-clinical capacity serving residents throughout its campus.
Democratic Gov. Janet Mills said the move is important because of the threat coronavirus presents to older residents. “This new measure will financially support nursing facilities as they implement additional protections to ensure the health and safety of those they serve,” Mills said.
The Vermont Legislature plans to return to the Statehouse in Montpelier next week to act on legislation designed to help the state recover from the economic damage caused by the outbreak, but leaders are working to determine the best way to do that safely.
